What the new China auto glass standard means for buyers

Apr 06, 2026

China just rolled out a new national standard for automotive cover glass. GB/T 46022-2025 took effect on February 1, 2026.

The standard covers technical requirements, test methods, and inspection rules for cover glass used in vehicle cockpits. Think center stacks, instrument clusters, and rear-seat entertainment screens.

What is new

The standard defines classification by application and performance level. Test methods now include stricter optical distortion limits for curved glass. Also new: standardized abrasion tests for anti-fingerprint coatings on automotive glass.

Why this matters for buyers. Before this standard, each OEM had its own spec sheet. Suppliers could shop around for the easiest test. Now everyone in China plays by the same rules.

Who drafted it

The standard came from the National Technical Committee for Automotive Standardization (SAC/TC 114). Drafting organizations include China Building Material Test & Certification Group, Fuyao Glass, Chongqing Xijing Special Glass, and several display glass manufacturers.

What to watch

Foreign suppliers selling into China's automotive market need to re-qualify their products against GB/T 46022-2025. Corning and AGC are likely already compliant. Smaller importers may struggle.

For buyers, this standard makes supplier comparison easier. But it does not guarantee field performance. The standard sets minimums, not best-in-class.
