Tempered Glass - The Most In-Demand Safety Glass

Apr 09, 2026

Tempered glass, also called toughened glass, is the backbone of safety-focused glass deep processing, with millions of monthly Google searches worldwide. It starts as ordinary annealed glass, heated to around 620–670°C (near its softening point) and then rapidly cooled with high-pressure air-a process called quenching. This treatment creates compressive stress on the surface and tensile stress inside, making it 4 to 5 times stronger than raw glass. When broken, it shatters into small, blunt pebbles instead of sharp shards, drastically reducing injury risk. Common uses include building facades, shower enclosures, automotive side windows, and table tops. A key note: all cutting, drilling, or edge work must be done before tempering, as post-tempering modifications will cause the glass to fracture.
