What you need to know about hot bent glass

Jun 09, 2026

1.Definition

The bent glass is heated to softening point(around 600-700°C) under custom mold into curved shape by using gravity, ring molds or press bending.

2.Common methods

Gravity bending: glass form the shape under a mold by its own weight.
Press bending: glass pressed into shape between male / female molds.

3.Applications

Display cases, curtain walls, shower enclosures, automotive glass, elevator panels, furniture.

4.Limitations

The cost higher than flat or cold bent glass
Optical distortion possibly exist near edges
Limit size and radius due to furnace and mold design
After bending, the tempering is typical for safety glass requirements

5.Key inspection
Edge flatness, uniform radius, no waves or roller marks, proper annealing to avoid stress fractures.
