The First Foam Glass Production Launch in Belgium
Jun 02, 2026
Foamit, a Finland-based producer of foam glass aggregate for the construction and infrastructure sectors, is planning to establish a new foam glass production project in Belgium.
As part of the initiative, the company aims to develop the country's first foam glass manufacturing facility, which will have an annual output capacity of approximately 240,000 cubic metres.
To advance the project, Foamit has signed a letter of intent with Sterhoek, a subsidiary of the Belgian waste management and soil remediation group H2O Group, to form a sustainable joint venture.
The proposed facility will be located on a Sterhoek-owned site within the Port of Antwerp, one of Europe's largest logistics and industrial hubs.
According to Foamit, the investment will support the company's expansion strategy in Belgium and neighboring markets while further strengthening its commitment to circular economy principles.
The company specializes in transforming recycled glass and industrial by-products into value-added materials for infrastructure and construction applications, as well as producing glass fractions used in packaging and other industrial sectors.
Foam glass is manufactured using recovered waste glass, including materials that are not suitable for direct recycling into new glass packaging products.
