Corning Drops Gorilla Glass Ceramic 3 On Motorola Razr Fold

Apr 07, 2026

Corning just announced its toughest cover glass to date. Gorilla Glass Ceramic 3 debuts on Motorola's razr fold at MWC 2026 in Barcelona. The headline claim? Survives drops from over two meters onto simulated concrete.

The more interesting stat is repeated drops. Corning lab data shows the material survived 20 consecutive one-meter drops onto simulated asphalt. A competitor's aluminosilicate glass typically failed on the first drop.

Why this matters for foldables. Hinge areas are weak points. Traditional cover glass handles single drops well but cracks under repeated stress. Corning engineered this one for longevity, not just initial performance. "We engineer our materials with longevity in mind, not just initial performance," said Lori Hamilton, Corning's Division VP for Gorilla Glass.

Motorola is first. Other brands will follow if real-world field data holds. Samsung used Gorilla Glass Ceramic 2 on the Galaxy S25 Edge last year. The Galaxy S26 line is a likely candidate for version.

The catch? Lab tests are not real pockets. Watch for user complaints about scratches and edge chips six months after launch.
