Cover Glass Isn't Just Focus On Hardness Anymore: Surface Tech Is The New Warfield

Jun 17, 2026

Corning company just won a CES 2026 Innovation Award but not the glass for tougher, it's about the on top of glass.

There are 2 surface treatment got recognized:

1.Gorilla Glass Matte Pro, it aimed at laptops and tablets. Basically it cuts down glare and reflections but keep all the drop resistance you expect from Gorilla Glass. If you tried working outside a sunny day, you will understand what's the matters.

2.SurfaceIQ, the anti reflective tech for car displays. You can understand sometimes sunlight makes your center console screen completely unreadable? It designed to fix it with better contrast, more clear visuals and less eye strain.

It's quite interesting for bigger picture. Cover glass became so good for being thin and shatter resistance, there's not much room for improve on those fronts. Now. the real competiton is shifting to surface engineering: Who can make a screen that feels better to look and easier to be used in real world conditions. Now it's becoming a key differentiator especially for high end devices and automotive OEMs.

In Market, analysts expect the global cover glass space to meet about 9.8 billion USD in 2026 and increase to 13.8 billion USD in 2030, around 9% annual growth. Who drive it? More foldable phones, bigger and more screen inside the cars and wearables like smartwatches continuting expand.
