Precision Engineering For Foldable Screens Era Came
Jun 18, 2026
Nowaday, the foldable phones are changing what we expect from display glass. The industry is leaving from one size fits all into something far more tailored.
Think of this way: Older foldable screens use a plastic film which call PI, but it scratched easily and no premium feel. Then UTG(Ultra thin glass) came, it's the most foldables being used today. It's harder and more clear.

But new version is coming: Uneven thickness flxible glass(UFG). As the same mentions, it's not uniform. The part that bends is incredibly think: Thin 30-50 micrometers, which makes the fold nearly invisible. The rest of screen stay thicker for around 100-120 micrometers, it can stay uncrack under a hit. It's the smart way to give screen right strength exactly it needs.
The industry watchers expect this to become the standard for premium foldable phones, while UTG will likely stick around in more affordable models. The big catalyst everyone's watching is Apple. If they release their first foldable iPhone with UFG in 2026, as many predict, it could push the whole supply chain to ramp up quality and capacity fast.
That's to say, UFG is still tricky and expesive to make, the yields hovering below 50%. For it to go truly mass market, manufacturers need to crack the code on a one step forming process that can make costs down without satisfy quality.
