What's the difference between Middle borosilicate and low borosilicate

Jun 01, 2026

Why China's pharma glass market is shifting from low borosilicate to middle borosilicate?

It's because of one thing: hydrolysis resistance: How well glass resists water attack.

Whenever water hits glass, hydrogen ions swap places with sodium ions in the glass. The sodium sits loosely in glass network, then it leaches out easily. More sodium out means worse resistance means more risk of drug interaction.

So what's the difference?

Middle borosilicate has much less sodium, less sodium leaches out better protection.

Low borosilicate has more sodium. More leaching lower resistance.

That's why shift to middle borosilicate isn't a trend- It's happening which driven by quality and safety.
