Corning Launches Glass Ceramic 3 On Motorola Foldable
Apr 06, 2026
Corning just released its toughest cover glass to date. Gorilla Glass Ceramic 3 debuts on Motorola's upcoming razr fold device. The headline number? Survives drops from over two meters onto concrete-like surfaces in lab tests.
The more interesting stat is repeated drops. Corning claims the material survived 20 consecutive one-meter drops onto simulated asphalt. A competitor's aluminosilicate glass typically failed on the first drop.
Why this matters for foldables. Hinge areas are weak points. Traditional glass ceramic materials handle single drops well but crack under repeated stress. Corning engineered this one for longevity, not just initial performance.
Motorola is first. Other brands will follow if real-world field data holds. But lab tests are not real pockets. Watch for user complaints about scratches and edge chips six months after launch.
