UFG (non-uniform Flexible Glass) Is Becoming The New Focus in Foldable Displays

Apr 20, 2026

Apple is reportedly planning to use UFG – non-uniform glass – in its first foldable iPhone, expected to launch in September 2026. The idea is pretty clever: make the glass thinner in the bendable area and thicker everywhere else. That gives you a lower crease without sacrificing durability.

Right now, there's no mass-produced foldable device on the market using UFG. But industry folks generally agree that if Apple steps in, that's going to speed up commercialization significantly.
