how to produce tempered flat glass?
GL sources float glass sheet and cut to size, edge ground and clean. Then it heated in a furnace to around 620-700°C till uniformly softened. In existing furnace, the glass is rapidly quenched by high velocity air jets in both surfaces simultaneiously. It rapid surface cooling, followed by slower internal contraction, induces a parabolic stress profile: The high compressive stress at the surfaces, compensating tensile stress in the core. The glass is subsequently inspected for optical quality and fragmentation compliance. So the final product perform 4~5 times strength of annealed glass and fractures into small, blunt granules.
