Automotive Display Glass Becoming Popular
If you process glass for cars, you may notice-everyone wants bigger, curved and cleaner.
What's Driving It
EV makers are treating displays like interiors used to treat leather. Tesla started it. Now every brand wants a curved center screen that looks like it was designed, not just bolted in.
The numbers back it up: automotive display glass grew 18% last year. Twice the rate of phones.
The Hard Part
Car glass specs are brutal. Temperature swings from -30°C to 80°C. UV exposure that kills cheap coatings in months. Safety requirements that flat glass never had to meet. And now curved? You're fighting springback, stress marks, and thickness variation at every bend.
Suppliers who can deliver consistent curves with丝印 that stays put? They're booking orders two years out.
Who's Moving
Corning's AutoGrade is showing up in more EVs. Chinese suppliers are moving fast-local brands want local supply chains, and they want them now.
Schott is pushing their lithium-aluminosilicate material for automotive. Claims better ion exchange, stronger after forming.
The China Piece
Domestic brands now specify local glass for most models under 400k RMB. Foreign suppliers still get the high end, but that line is moving. Five years ago, Chinese automotive glass was a price play. Now it's a performance play.
Bottom Line
If you process automotive display glass, you're busy. If you process it well, you're busier. The curve isn't going away. Neither is the heat.
