AG Glass Industry Update:Tackling The Sparkle Problem

The CSG(China Southern Glass) developed a 2 steps chemical etching process which noticeably reduces visual sparkle, the long lasting pain point for AG glass. This kind of technolgy is aim for automotive displays and medical monitors, though it didn't put in mass production yet.

Shantou Ultrasonic Display proposed a dual layer particle structure which combines periodic and random patterns. Such design helps to eliminate flicker and improves color consistency across different viewing angles.

Yichang CSG, they improved the etching solution formula, which extend bath life over 15% and boosting yield by more than 1%, which a big win for cost control.

Capacity expansions & New use cases

HuaiXian Optoelectronics: Started production at its new $140 million AG glass facility. The plant can produce 2 million square meters annually, mainly for automotive center consoles and large touchscreens.

Simon Electric is now using AG glass panels in light switches and sockets, marking a surprising move into the smart home decoration space.

The trends:

High end technology is becoming mature which a better sparkle control and higher yields: While production costs are slowly going down. As a result, AG glass now is quietly finding its way into more EV smart cockpits and whole home automation setups.
